The C5 Corvettes (1997-2004) are fantastic cars, but with 15+ years of use, the electrical ground system has proven to be a weak link. These cars have a lot of electronics, and with those come many ground connections. With these cars, the factory chose to bring most of these connections together into ten “splice packs.” These splice packs look much like a regular connector, with each wire being terminated with a standard connector terminal. However, instead of having a mating connector, the splice pack contains a shorting bar that electrically joins all the wires together.

This design works great when new, but the splice packs are not sealed. Over time, they will corrode and compromise the vital ground connections they supply. Opening the connections and cleaning them is one option, but you must be careful not to remove the protective plating from the terminals. Since you are opening up the connection, replacement of the parts is a better solution.
Of the ten splice packs on every C5, five of them include an actual ground tab, which is then bolted to the frame. The other five splice packs do not have a grounding tab, so at least one of the incoming wires must go to another ground connection.
This kit allows you to service up to five splice packs. Two kits are required if you wish to replace all the spice packs, but this is rarely necessary. Most cars will only need to replace those that are most exposed. At the very least, we recommend you replace the three splice packs in the engine compartment (100, 101, and 122). After that, we recommend you look over the list of affected circuits and concentrate on any remaining splice packs that might be causing some of your specific issues.
This drawing shows the approximate location of each splice pack. X's represent splice packs with a grounding tab, and O’s represent splice packs without a grounding tab. The numbers next to the symbols refer to the name for each splice pack as referenced in the factory service manual.
